Cyprus Passport Visa Free Countries List

Visas are issued by authorities to foreigners who want to come to their nation. There are different kinds of visas, but the most common ones are tourist, business, and in-transit visas. Visa-free travel is a facility to visit a country without having to complete its long visa methods. Citizens of a country can have a visa-free trip to another country if the authorities of those two countries have an agreement or treaty to that effect, or if the receiving country unilaterally opened its borders.

As per the Global Passport Index (2019), the Cyprus passport benefits are numerous. It ranks 8 in terms of travel freedom. The index takes into account 199 passports and 219 travel destinations. One of the essential benefits of taking up Cyprus citizenship either by naturalization or citizenship by investment is to get access to travel to 122 countries visa-free, 39 countries by visa on arrival, and require permission for only 37 countries. Apart from the visa-free travel benefits, Cyprus is a picturesque location with sunny weather, a growing economy, and excellent healthcare, making it a popular destination for a second passport. You can undertake citizenship programs to learn more about the same.

Benefits Of A Visa-Free Travel

  • There is no necessity to fill out lengthy application forms or give additional documents such as letters of reference from friends and employers, photographs, copies of passports, and bank statements.
  • There is no requirement to share private or confidential data.
  • There is no need to spend money on a visa. Visa charges are usually higher for developed countries.
  • One does not have to wait for the embassy or a related body to process the application for their visa.
  • One can travel on an impulse, without needing to plan days or weeks in advance.
  • There is no need to wait in those long lines at border control on arrival.

Difference Between Visa on Arrival and Visa-Free Travel

As the name may suggest, Visas on Arrival are allotted when the visitor actually ‘arrives’ in a nation. The method of releasing the visa is started and completed, at the port of arrival, where government officials generally examine the visitor’s passport, collect the applicable visa payment, and finally issue the visa. Some countries collect biometrics, which include the visitor’s fingerprints or an eye scan. Like a regular visa, the visa-on-arrival is stamped on to the visitor’s passport, which must have enough number of empty pages. The visa-on-arrival process is thought to be simpler than that of obtaining a visa before traveling, as all steps take place in one spot – the port of arrival – and the visitor is not expected to participate in any formal procedure at the country’s consulate or embassy, which is time-consuming.

Be careful, as some states may need the visitor to present proof of a return or onward journey, hotel reservations, and adequate funds. Visa-on-arrival services are usually available at principal ports of admission, such as airports and large seaports. If no such amenity is possible, the visitor must ensure he or she has already received a regular visa from the embassy before landing.

Importantly, where visa-on-arrival facilities are available, they are generally separate from immigration controls. The officer who handles payment and issues the visa is different from the official who lets the visitor cross the frontier. It helps and decreases the possibility of corruption.

Visa-free travel, on the other hand, enables the holder of a valid passport to enter a nation without the need to apply for a visa beforehand, and without requiring to go through any further visa fulfillment procedure upon entering a country. Entry is also free, allowing visitors to travel spontaneously, without having to pre-plan or collect documentation.

Even when visitors have visa-free travel benefits to a country, they must still pass through an immigration control facility, where their passports are checked for legality. At this point, visitors may also receive a passport stamp. Note that countries like the U.S. and Japan stamp passports upon entry only, while other countries, like Singapore and the UAE stamp passports both upon entry and upon exit. Nations like Hong Kong and Israel have done away with passport stamps, but provide visitors with landing slips, which are not a need for departure.

Whether traveling with a visa, using a visa-on-arrival facility, or entering visa-free, visitors must but be careful not to overstay their leave of entry. Even visitors authorized to visa-free entry may only live in a country for a limited time, usually between a period of a fortnight and three months, which is sometimes further limited to within a given period of six months or a year. Staying more than that is an immigration crime, which visitors must dodge if they do not want civil or even criminal charges, or fail their future rights to travel quickly and reliably.

Cyprus Visa-Free Travel Countries List In The Schengen Area

Although Cyprus, which entered the EU on 1 May 2004, is lawfully obliged to join the Schengen Area, implementation got delayed because of the Cyprus conflict. As of 2019, no date has been fixed yet for application of the Schengen rules by Cyprus. Cyprus has less possible benefit from an implementation of Schengen, for it has no land border with another EU member state. It requires air travel or around 12 hours of sea travel to reach the nearest EU member.

Those with a Cyprus passport can travel to the Schengen countries under EU Freedom of Movement. All they need is a valid ID card for a seamless trip without internal border checks.

General Points Before Travelling

There are certain general points that must be kept in mind while travelling.

Passport validity

The required passport validity length differs from country to country. While most of them require passports to be valid for at least six more months on arrival, few countries require either a passport valid on arrival or a passport valid throughout the intended stay. Some countries have mutual ties with each other to cut the period of passport validity needed for each other’s citizens or even accept passports that have already expired.

Blank passport pages

Many countries need a minimum number of blank pages in the passport presented, generally one or two pages. Signature pages, which often appear after the visa pages, are not counted as being available.

Vaccination

An International Certificate of Vaccination is required to prove that the passenger is vaccinated against yellow fever. Most African countries require all incoming passengers to have a current International Certificate of Vaccination. Some countries need the certificate only if the passenger is coming from an infected area or has visited one recently.
